Hi Dror, I had a client earlier this week who could not rest her head on the head rest due to her body shape (large mammary area and a short neck) even when the headrest was at the highest level. I worked around this by giving her a pillow and she rested her head facing to one side. It was uncomfortable for her to place her arms by her side, so she kept them folded with her hands next to her head. I felt that this was not an optimum position to receive a massage but the client told me this was the most comfortable. Would you recommend making any adaptations, for example not using certain techniques, when the client is in this position? (Head to one side and arms folded near to the head). Hope that is clear. Thanks!
Hi Roisin,
This seemed an extreme situation. Can I show you all in class how to deal with it? It might be a question of how to set the head rest, how to use an extra pillow and more adaption.
Also, if all of those failed, it might be better to give the client neck massage while she is facing up. We haven't done that yet, but this will solve some of the problems.
Also, and this goes beyond what you will learn in that course, is to put this client on a side lying position. Side lying is a great position and cane solve a lot of those issue. Its very comfortable and you can do all techniques in that position. More about it in class. Just remind me to see if I can help you in class.
