Bodyology was founded in 2006 by Dror Steiner, massage therapist & Osteopath, in London, UK.
Bodyology’s mission is to create a high-quality massage education that prepares students for the real world of massage therapy careers.
The two questions that helped shape Bodyology were:
– What makes a great massage therapist?
– How can we teach this without cutting corners?
And we are dedicated and persistent in teaching exactly this.
Back in 2006, Bodyology gathered elements and pieces from different people, techniques and experience.
“I have learned a lot from my teachers, other Bodyology tutors, body therapists, and of course, from students. Bodyology is a shared creation of all of these.” Dror Steiner, Bodyology founder.
For our teaching methods, we left all the boring and ineffective teaching methods for the bubblier “active learning” style. Base on Bodyology students’ results, it works! And even better, our students love it!
Since 2006, Bodyology has grown. Classes started to fill up. Friends brought friends; people came to try and stayed as students, then became ‘Bodyologists’ (Bodyology graduates). Classes turned from small families to small tribes.
And we keep growing and forming.
We like students to enrol on our diploma courses after making an informed decision based on experiences. So, we created a fantastic “Try-First” enrolment process for our diploma courses.
We build our ethos by asking two simple questions:
What are the skills and qualities that great massage therapists need?
How can we teach this without cutting corners?
Sounds simple? To be honest, there is a lot of cutting corners with some other schools.
Our ethos is built around feeling comfortable with both the hardcore human science and art of healing, to enjoy using both sides of the brain and link it to an open heart and extended giving hands.
It’s important for us that students have a positive learning experience that fills them with confidence and helps open new doors in the future.
We are an active and growing community. This is helped by using our Virtual Campus- an online social network and learning zone, where students and graduates can chat, ask questions, find jobs and seek advice on all aspects of massage.
Student success is measured not only in passing exams but in how satisfied are they working as therapists. And in what they achieve personally throughout the course.
Most of all, our ethos is that your success is ours.
We use a holistic and humanistic approach to massage therapy based on human science and the art of healing.
We recognize the fast pace of life in the 21st century, and know that massage, given by an expert, can help clients tremendously on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.
Long lectures are boring!
Fun and interactive learning are so much better.
We achieve this by:
Using the students’ senses.
Learning from real life scenarios rather than books.
Working in small groups with everybody trying rather than the tutors just talking.
Role playing as clients and therapists.
Body painting on models to illustrate how muscles and bones work.
This is only a sample of the fun involved in learning
We teach students to “think” massage and find solutions. Bodyology lessons are usually noisy, where everybody expresses themselves, trying things out, even arguing their point of view. This is where true learning and growth happens.
We don’t teach in “boxes”. It’s common, for example, that during an anatomy lesson, we end up talking about emotions, culture and the society around us.
We encourage our students’ curiosity by asking them to find answers while tutors support this process.
Once it comes to teaching massage practice, Bodyology’s method is very different from other massage schools. We teach:
A massive range of massage techniques, methods and qualities.
How to assess clients through consultation and posture and find their exact needs and issues.
How to choose the most effective techniques from your toolbox and tailor those to suit each client’s personal needs and issues.
We expose students to real life scenarios early on in the course to teach them this process. Tutors are never too far away to help. We don’t cut corners by only teaching you massage techniques to pass the final exam. We teach you how to master massage.
Students come from all learning abilities, from high achievers to those who struggle with learning difficulties. We support each student where and when they need it and at the level they can be reached. Tutors can adapt their teaching style to suit each student.
Students’ development through the course happens with the help of continuous feedback from the tutors, informing them what they are doing well and how to move on to the next level.
We are dedicated to teaching students the art of self-reflection: the ability to give yourself feedback about your strengths and weaknesses. This is achieved by supporting students’ intuition and emotional intelligence, through problem-based learning, self-discovery, real life scenarios, encouragement of personal development, group work, trusting oneself, and more. It’s often difficult to understand this subject, but we will be happy to explain this when we meet!
“I love the fact that technology can support the learning process and can bring people with the same passion together.” Dror, Bodyology founder.
We are one of the only massage schools worldwide that offers access to the Virtual Campus, an online course companion, which is accessible via any phone or computer.
On the Virtual Campus, you can find hundreds of hours of massage videos, classes and files on any massage topic. Students can post any question for tutors, or for other students. More personalized feedback is offered via email or at one-on-one meetings.
A great massage therapist is not someone who achieves a higher exam score, but someone who is also personally developed. Personal development is something you will hear a lot during our courses.
Students’ personal development may include emotional intelligence, communication skills, listening skills, intuition, posture improvement, self-confidence, physical and emotional well-being and more.
We don’t teach by ticking boxes. We carefully observe how students develop effective massage skills. We dislike those schools who teach “massage routine” and don’t pay attention to softer skills such as quality of touch.
High quality education pays in the long run and it’s the best investment in yourself.
Bodyology is different from conventional massage schools since we teach students how to tailor treatment to each client’s needs. Simply put, each client is unique.
Bodyology is not for everyone. We believe that quality learning takes time and effort. So if you are looking for “quick fix” training with minimal effort, we may not be the right choice for you. However, if you are looking for an engaging massage course, high quality education, an opportunity to meet passionate and experienced tutors and study with like-minded students … then join the revolution!
